The first time many people print small photos at home, they expect the printer to do the obvious thing. Open a picture, choose A4 paper, click Print, and wait for a correctly sized result.

How to print a 4x6 photo at home
A finished 4x6 photo measures 4 x 6 inches, or 101.6 x 152.4 mm. If your printer accepts 4x6 photo paper, prepare a 4x6 page containing the photo, choose 4x6 as the paper size, and print at Actual Size or 100%.
Before printing, check paper size, orientation, paper type, borderless settings, and scale. Fit to Page should be off when exact size matters.

The reliable workflow is to select A4 as the page size, enter the physical size required for each photo, add photos or copies, leave a small cutting gap, export the whole page as a PDF, and print at 100%.
The number of photos that fit depends on the photo dimensions, orientation, page margins, spacing, and printable area. Do not force an extra photo onto the page by shrinking everything slightly. If the dimensions matter, create another page.
Crop to fill or fit the whole photo
This choice causes many unexpected printing results. If a square image needs to become a 4x6 rectangle, the shapes do not match. The layout must either crop the image or add empty space.
Crop to Fill makes the image cover the entire photo area, but removes some content near the edges. Use it for edge-to-edge prints, standard frames, and centered portraits where the subject is safely away from the border.
Fit the Whole Image keeps the entire image visible, but may add white space on two sides. Use it for screenshots, documents, images with text near the edge, or photos where nothing can be cropped.

Actual Size or 100% prints the PDF using its intended physical dimensions. A photo defined as 4 x 6 inches should remain 4 x 6 inches.
Fit to Page or Scale to Fit resizes the document so everything fits inside the printable area. That is useful for ordinary documents, but usually wrong for exact-size photo printing.
Even a small adjustment matters. A 95% scale setting turns a 100 mm object into a 95 mm object. If the preview shows any scale other than 100%, stop and check why.
Printer margins and borderless printing
Many home printers cannot print all the way to the edge of normal paper. If a photo extends into the unprintable margin, the printer may cut off part of the content or shrink the whole page.
Keep photos away from the outer edge when printing on A4 or Letter paper. Borderless printing is different: some printers support it for photo paper sizes like 4x6, but borderless mode may slightly enlarge the image so no white edge remains.
That enlargement can crop a small amount from the photograph. It may be fine for a casual family photo, but it can be a problem for ID photos or exact frame inserts.
Check whether the photo has enough resolution
Correct physical dimensions do not guarantee a sharp print. A small image can be placed at 5x7 inches, but it may look soft or pixelated.
A useful high-quality target is roughly 300 pixels per printed inch. That means about 600 x 900 px for a 2 x 3-inch print, 1200 x 1800 px for 4 x 6, 1500 x 2100 px for 5 x 7, and 2400 x 3000 px for 8 x 10.
These are not absolute pass-or-fail limits. Smaller images may still look acceptable for casual prints, small prints, or distant viewing. But a tiny thumbnail cannot become a sharp 5x7 print just by changing its DPI setting.

For a family album with openings that measure 10 x 15 cm, choose that photo size first, upload the photos, check each crop, choose A4 as the paper, leave cutting gaps, download a PDF, print at 100%, and measure one photo before cutting the whole batch.
For a scrapbook, you might choose a custom size such as 50 x 75 mm, arrange several photos on A4, use Crop to Fill for a consistent look, add small gaps, and print one test page.
